ZHONG Xunzheng

Professor Zhong Xunzheng was born in Wugang, Hunan Province, China in August, 1929. He graduated from the Department of Architecture of National Nanjing University in 1952. Under instruction of the older generation architecture educators such as Prof. Yang Tingbao, Prof. Tong Jun, Prof. Liu Dunzhen and Prof. Li Jianchen, he is one of outstanding architects educated in New China. After his graduation, he worked in Hunan University and Wuhan University, and has been working at his Alma Mater since 1954. Now, he holds a position of professor and Ph.D Supervisor of School of Architecture at Southeast University. In 1997, he was elected as an Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering. In 1999, he founded the Center for Environmental and Architectural Research. Through his more than sixty years professional career, Prof. Zhong is one of the significant participants and witnesses of the progress of architectural education and design in China, and has made abundant achievements as a famous scholar, educator and architect who specialized in education research, project design and architectural drawing.

Professor Zhong Xunzheng has been dedicated to architectural education in China. Promoting the fine tradition of School of Architecture, he advocates that design practice is the core of the development of architecture discipline and talents cultivation. He has trained more than 100 doctoral and master students, and many of them have become the leading figures in the architecture field. He has published more than 30 articles, teaching materials and books. Among them, the article “On Architectural in Beijing” won the International Excellent Paper Award in the international exchange and selection event held by the United World Chinese Association (UWCA) and World Cultural and Arts Research Center. Both “Architectural Drawing” and “Architectural Drawing – Environmental Representation and Techniques” co-authored by him (first author) have been reprinted more than 20 times. The former has been designated as a teaching material by many architectural schools and departments in China and was awarded the First Prize of the Excellent Teaching Materials of National Colleges and Universities. He has gained remarkable achievements in architectural painting with solid foundation of basic techniques and won high praise from his peers at home and abroad.
