Professor Changwen Miao (born August, 1957) is a doctoral supervisor and a construction material expert.
In January 1982, Changwen Miao graduated from Nanjing Institute of Technology (Southeast University) majoring in construction materials and products. In February 1982, he joined the China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research. In July 1984, he attended the Jiangsu Research Institute of Building Science. From 2011, he worked in the Southeast University and he held the director position of Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Civil Engineering Materials. During the period from January 1986 to January 1987, he went to Denmark for advanced studies. Changwen Miao is now the chairman of the Jiangsu Research Institute of Building Science Co.,LTD, the director and chief expert of the State Key Laboratory of High Performance Civil Engineering Materials, the counselor of the People's Government of Jiangsu Province, and the Ninth, Tenth and Eleventh National People's Congress. In November 2011, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Changwen Miao is a member of the Management and Decision Committee of the International Union of Laboratories and Experts in Construction Materials, Systems and Structures (RELEM). He assumes the director positon of the China Building Materials Federation, the China Civil Engineering Society, the Jiangsu Civil Engineering &Architectural Society, and the China Concrete & Cement-based Products Association.
Academician Changwen Miao has been engaged in the theoretical research of civil engineering materials and the application of engineering technology for decades. He stayed active on the forefront of major engineering construction projects in China for more than 20 years. He has undertaken more than 30 national, provincial and ministerial-level scientific research projects, including the national ‘973’project and the key projects of the Natural Science Foundation. He concentrated on researches related to the key technologies of anti-crack capacities of concrete, the service life of major infrastructure projects,the improvement of durability and the multifunctional civil engineering materials. Quantities of gratifying results have been achieved and have been proved reliable by the inspection of national major engineering projects, which significantly contributed to China's engineering construction.
Academician Changwen Miao won three national second prizes for scientific and technological progress, one second national technical invention award and six provincial and ministerial scientific and technological progress first prizes. He has approximately 80 national invention patents. He published four monographs and more than 200 academic articles, among which more than 150 articles are indexed in SCI, EI or ISTP. Changwen Miao enjoys an excellent internationally reputation. He has been awarded the Hong Kong Heliang Heli Award, the National Outstanding Professional and Technical Talent Award, the Top Ten Outstanding Patent Inventors of Jiangsu Province, the First Innovation and Entrepreneurship Award of Jiangsu Province, the Labor Model of Jiangsu Province, the Advanced Individual of Returned Overseas in Jiangsu Province, and the Science and Technology Meritorious Individual of Nanjing.
