Education
Professor Zhang earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degree at the Department of Precision Instrument Engineering, Tianjin University from September 1982 to March 1991.
Work Experience
After graduation, he worked at Beihang University as Dean of School of Automation and Electrical Engineering, Dean of School of Instrumentation Science and Opto-electronics Engineering, and Vice-President of the universityfor graduate studies. In September 2015, he was appointed as the President of Southeast University.
Research and Awards
Professor Zhang has long been engaged in teaching and research on dynamic vision measurement. His research solved the key technology of high-speed moving body geometry and high-precision on-site dynamic measurement. He presided over the development of small-scale high-precision celestial sensor spaceborne products, aviation equipment and flight performance dynamic test station, which greatly contributed to the research and manufacture of China’s Shenzhou Manned Spaceship and a series of satellites.
He is the four-time winner of the National Technological Invention Award -- the first prize in 2006, the second prize in both 2006 and 2012, and the fourth prize in 1997. In 2016, He was honored with the second prize for the National Science and Technology Progress Award, which is the most prestigious scientific award in China. Other national awards and honors he won include National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars (2001), Achievement Award for Changjiang Scholar (2008). In 2000, he was appointed as the Chair Professor of “Changjiang Scholar”. In 2013 he was nominated and became the Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering at the age of 48,which made him one of the youngest academician in history.
Social Duties
Professor Zhang serves as the alternate member of CPC Central Committee, the Chairman of Chinese Society for Optical Engineering, Vice Chairman of China Instrument and Control Society, and the Convener of Instrument Science and Technology Discipline Review Group in Ministry of Education.
