Zhang Yaoming, academician of chemical, metallurgy and material engineering department, Chinese academy of engineering, born in Wuxi, Jiangsu in December, 1943 and graduated from Tongji university in Shanghai in 1965.After graduation, he was assigned to Nanjing fiberglass research & design institute, worked as vice president of the institute from 1993-1995 and worked as president of this institute from 1995 to 2003. Now, he is the director of Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of Solar Energy Science and Technology (Southeast University), head of Sinoma Tiancheng joint solar energy research center of Southeast university, chairman of Nanjing Sinoma Tiancheng new energy Co.,Ltd and etc.
Academician Zhang has managed and undertaken more than 20 major important national, ministerial and provincial level scientific and technological projects, won 6 awards including the second prize of national award for technological invention and national prize for progress in science and technology, obtained 5 second prizes of ministerial and provincial prize for progress in science and technology and one Dupont award. He has published more than 30 publications and papers, applied for more than 100 patents including more than 50 patents for invention and over 50 patents have been granted. He has trained a number of outstanding young and middle-aged principal technicians in Chinese non-communication optical fiber and special glass fiber field, and he is a pioneer and founder of technology in this field. Academician Zhang has won more than 10 honorary titles including “model worker for building and material system” awarded by Chinese ministry of personnel and national building and material bureau, and obtained “Wang Danping scientific bonus” in 1995.
Academician Zhang first invented double crucible drawing with 20 nozzles technology, extra large double head wire drawing machine and multi-row porous co-extrusion plastic optical fiber technology. Multi-component glass optical fibers, plastic fibers, image bundles and other non-communication optical fibers manufacture technology that he studied all have reached the advanced world level, some technologies were internationally leading and promoted the development of Chinese non-communication optical fiber, therewith, more than 10 billion industry scale of Chinese non-communication optical fibers has been formed. The platinum-substituted bushing furnace for drawing high strength fiberglass and fiber cone needle tubing air cooling technology were first invented by academician Zhang. He has mastered the supporting work of the 31 Project heat-proof materials for the four major national defense projects and the glass fiber profile fabrics for the No. 10 Project radome, which has played an important role in China's glass fiber industry and the National Defense Force. contribution.
Academician Zhang has been investigating the solar energy technology for a long time and tenaciously and has the good reputation of “sunshine academician”. His main research areas contain: solar lighting, solar thermal power generation, concentrating photovoltaic power generation, PV/T integrated utilization and etc. He has managed and undertook a series of scientific research projects, such as the national natural science foundation of China, scientific research institute special fund of ministry of science and technology, and the high technology research and development program of Jiangsu province, and has made breakthroughs continuously. He led the team to build the first 70kW solar thermal power demonstration project in China, and successfully developed a high cost-effective concentrating photovoltaic power generation system. More than 60 solar energy utilization related national patents has been applied by him and over 30 items has been authorized.
In 2004, academician Zhang was awarded “the ten outstanding patent inventors of Jiangsu province”, obtained the special prize of Chinese first “invention and entrepreneurship award” and won the title “contemporary inventor” in 2005.
